In this analysis, I will be analyzing the text “Multicultural societies create more problems than benefits.” Which is a non-fiction essay written by Gorge Adams, where he speaks about what extent he agrees to the (statement above).

To start off this analytical essay, I will be using the “Laswell/Shannon weaver model.” Therefore, starting out on the sender, then the message, Channel, and then the receiver.

Uddrag
Channel: This type of article is called an essay, which is usually short piece of literature, where the author ether a personal experience, or an opinion.

Which you can see was done in this essay, where the author has his own opinion. He is backing up his argument with facts, in an attempt to convince the receiver of something, which is also called “persuasive writing”

The receiver of this paper could probably be determined, to be quite a variety of groups/types of people. But after interpreting the text in a number of ways, I have come to the conclusion, that the author most likely didn’t write the essay, just for one or type of person to take in.

The reason for me thinking this is that these types of essays that discuss some sort of problem in society are usually making an effort to make a change.

This could be by informing the receivers about an issue and hoping they will take part in making that change, or it could be done by explaining something like a situation, by answering a question, as it was done in this text.

That’s why I think the essay was actually meant for everyone that lives in the UK, and maybe even not just the UK. But also, people who plan on moving there so that they can stick with the fact, that they are important to the UK, and not let anyone change their mind.

Now that I have described the communication situation, I will be moving on to analyzing how the message is presented through discourse analysis and argumentation.
