The gun debate has become more perceptible due to an increasing number of mass shootings in America.

Mass shootings are seen as a menace to society, and they often leave scars on the families of the victims, as well as the survivors.

From 2000 to 2021 there have allegedly been 93 mass shootings in the U.S . The increasing and large number of mass shootings leave questions and debate in American society, why do mass shootings occur so much in the U.S. and is it ever going to stop?

The main focus of this analytical essay will be to analyze the reasons behind mass shootings in the U.S. and discuss which measures can be taken to prevent future mass shootings.

Second of all, it is said that so-called “loners” that have experienced social rejection and exclusion, are more likely to commit mass shootings, as their pathway to seek vengeance .

Studies found out that victims of physical- and psychologically bullying, often are the people that would carry and use guns .

However, this study applies to all gun deaths in the U.S. and not solely mass shootings which should be taken into consideration when saying that mental problems aren’t the problem.

In some cases, the reason behind a mass shooting is due to mental problems, for example 21-year-old Patrick Crusius, killing 22 people at a Walmart had mental problems, as a result of being bullied .

Additionally, some might also say that violent video games play a role in mass shootings. Following the mass shooting in El Paso, the shooter posted a manifesto online, mentioning the first-person-shooter video game “Call of Duty” .

As a result of this, many critics have suspected violent video games as a connection to mass shootings, as well as Walmart removing violent video games displays from their stores .
