These requirements do not prohibit women or minority candidates from running. In the first phase of becoming the president of the US president, people with similar ideas must group with either the democrats or the republicans.
Everybody who joined either the democrats or the republicans are now seen as candidates for their political party, the candidates should now duel between the other candidates from their own political party, to gain favor of their party members.
The party members have to select the best candidate, after their campaign in the US, the best candidate from either the democrats or the republicans is selected through a series of discussions and votes.

During the presidential campaign the president nominee is holding a lot of speeches in many of the 52 states in the US, they want to convince people that their ideas about how the country should look is the best.
Some states are known as either republican or democratic, and the president nominees is not using many funds in states they know would most likely vote for them, or for their political candidate. At the 2016 American election the political map of the US was mostly dominated by the red, the republicans color.
