It's pretty clear to see, that Mrs. O´Brian, a strict and wealthy but kind landlady, wanted to help Mr Ramirez escape from the miserable environments in Mexico at that time

so she gave him a place to live, while he was working at an airplane factory during the war. He earned good money at the airplane factory, both during the war, and after the war.

Mr Ramirez came by bus from Mexico City to San Diego, and then from San Diego to Los Angeles, where he luckily found Mrs. O´Brian, that wanted to help him get shelter.

Mr Ramirez was a good man, he earned good money at the airplane factory, even after the war he worked there. He saved lots of his money, and only got drunk once a week, a privilege every good working man should act up to.

He enjoyed the privileges of using his hard earned money. Quickly after he arrived, he bought a radio, and in the evenings he turned it up and enjoyed the music, he also bought a wristwatch he went without.

Mr Ramirez also liked to walk down the silent streets and see the bright clothes in the store windows, He often ate many course dinners and went to shows, opera and theatres with his friends.
