Hi everyone Thank you for having me, I am very happy to be here. My name is Caroline Lorentzen and I am a student at Berkeley California.

I'm here today to share some of my thoughts on US immigration. First, I will be touching upon the historical and cultural importance of immigration to the US.

Second, I will addressthe American dream as well as the American values and lastly, I will be discussing whether or not I think the American dream is alive today.

If you have any questions feel free to ask the along the way, I will also be answering questions at the end of my speech.

So, let us get started by looking at the historical and cultural importance and impact of immigration to the US.

It all started more than 20,000 years ago, when the first immigrants arrived in America, following animal herds all the way from Asia.

Then in 1492, Christopher Columbus arrived in what he thought was undiscovered lands, but what he didn’t know was, that there already were about 1.5 million Native Americans living there. This “discovery” would be the one that really accelerated the immigration to America.
