Uddrag
The short story “I’m still here” by Paul Miller is a story about a young man in his twenties who wants to find a better side of himself by not using the internet for a hole year.
The reason he came up with the whole idea of him not using the internet for a hole year is that he felt that he was starting to feel unproductive and he felt that internet was just useless for him in some way.
He was 26 years old at the time and he wanted to quit his job and move home to his parents and read books all day long.
But then The Verge wanted to pay him to leave the internet for the hole year if he wanted to inform the internet, he was supposed to leave behind about how it was being internet free.
Then he could stay in New York instead of leaving it as supposed. He had used the internet since he was 12 years old, so it was going to be a new way to live his life. He starts off with a start by reading some books, doing exercises and lots of other things.
He has to send an essay to The Verge every week because The Verge needs to follow him as much as possible. He also lost 15 pounds without even trying.
He then started to feel bored but that made him realize that how much greater the smaller things in his life were. He didn’t only just start to appreciate things more but also the people around him.
For example, he always acted kind of like a jerk to his sister but then started to actually care about all that she has to say and started to act nicely around her.
