Indledning
I would like to make a few remarks about the Existential and psychoanalytical themes in Hamlet. To do so, I will look at three specific scenes.

The first scene, Conversation with the ghost, takes place in act 1; scene 5. What happens in this scene is Hamlet encounters the ghost of his father, King Hamlet.

It’s a very unpleasant conversation between the two of them. The ghost of his father tells Hamlet that he has been murdered by Hamlet’s uncle and that he robbed him of everything he owned.

After Hamlet has faced his fathers’ ghost, he knows everything. He is now aware of everything and becomes another individuality. He's alone with his knowledge and is very lonely in his existence.

He knows that God has a purpose with him. It is a very short moment of knowledge, and afterward, he doesn’t know anything. He lives in doubt.

His purpose is to take revenge on his fathers’ murder. That's all he's thinking about. The universe has opened completely up for him. This feeling doesn’t last long, because afterward, he lives in doubt. He has a brief moment of awareness.
