Grace is the main character. She was a strong lady with high ambitions, but things did not turn out as she had hoped.

Grace did marry a steelworker and stayed because of the job her father provided her with, which left her with no other options than to stay.
But it has no effect on Grace's personality. She is a highly hardworking woman who values and appreciates her profession, despite the fact that she has got grandmother arthritis.
