Indledning
Mary Shelley's novel, ‘Frankenstein’ was written in 1818 and The movie ‘Mary Shelley's Frankenstein’ was made in 1994. It was fundamentally a story about creation, new and terrifying ways to bring light and life into the word, and in many ways it was also a response to the Enlightenment's emphasis on scientific rationality.

During that time, people really thought that we would eventually be able to reanimate the dead, and other people were rightly troubled by that idea. There were all these new scientific discoveries and there was a great debate about how much knowledge we humans could actually handle? And how much knowledge was worth?

Mary Shelley uses figurative language in the text in the form of, symbolism, and metaphor. Figurative language means meaning beyond the literal words used, so the reader develops more understanding of the key elements used in the text.

In the text page 91 line 1-6 Frankenstein says “It was on a dreary night in November, that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils. With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, i collected the instruments of life around me, that might infuse a spark of being into the rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half-extinguished light, i saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open”

By reading this it's clear to the reader that Frankenstein was made under a frightening setting. It's a cold, rainy and dark winter night and the candle was nearly burnt out. Things are always more scary when it's dark because we never know what's behind the darkness.

We cannot see what's coming and we are always scared of the unknown. Many of the key events in ‘Frankenstein’ actually takes place at night or in the dark under gloomy circumstances.

However its opposite light, is used to show the power of knowledge and discovery. By creating life he will pour a torrent of light into our dark world but the problem is that he just made it darker.
