As expressed before, The New York Times has a great deal of loyal readers. Therefore, it can be a bit difficult to find out the exact age group, sex etc., that Ashley Fetters appeals to, however given her record of articles, it is easily notable that she appeals to people in their early, mid -and late 20’s. Her articles attract young couples as well.

The circumstances (covid-19 lockdown) lead to Ashley Fetters writing the article, and to the newspaper publishing it – like with her other articles.

Jumping into the article itself; In the introducing line Ashley uses various words to accentuate her point: “As everyone who’s ever been a boyfriend, or a girlfriend, or a spouse or a lover or a partner or even a friend with benefits” –

I should perhaps correct myself, the quotation I have chosen to quote, does not seem to have any specific topic, rather it emphasizes the point that’s about to come. Nevertheless, the words quoted above uses a variation of 2 different rhetorical devices; Amplification and egos. Amplification is a rhetorical device that heavily uses adjectives and/or recurrences a word to really underline a point.
