Child labor is work performed by children. It is often work that starts at an early age, and which takes childhood from children. Child labor is often detrimental to children's physical and mental development.

The age of the child, the type and hours of work performed, and the circumstances under which it is performed all affect whether or not those type of work can be categorized as child labor.

A statistic shows that 152 million children worldwide are victims of child labor. 88 million are boys and 64 million are girls.1 It is not just the number that surprises many.

The age child labor starts at is often 5–11-year-old children2 . Consequently, I find it awful to read about child labor. However, child labor has a lot of consequences.

This leads me on to the next point on my agenda, the consequences of child labor. There are big consequences of child labor. Many children work in poor working conditions.
