Scotland is a fairly small country with 5,5 million inhabitants, but they have large and old history. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh, which houses nearly half a million people.
Scotland is also a part of the Great Britain. But my question is, why are the Scottish so proud if being Scots?
What makes them feel a deeper sense of patriotism? To back up my claim about Scotland having a strong sense of national pride.
A study shows that more than 66% of those surveyed in Scotland regarded themselves as Scottish first and foremost, while this number is as low as 31% in England[ Looking at Scotland 1 p 7].
We can compare these number to Denmark. Denmark has had an uprise in national pride since 1981, because in 1981, 32% of Danes answered that they were very proud of being Danish.
This number is now over 55%[ https://www.zetland.dk/historie/so4E9XxL-aopXLwdn-c00b9], thinking about this development, I find it rather amusing.
The society in 2022 is more multicultural than ever, and we communicate and interact more than ever with the outside world. Maybe it just reinforced our thoughts about where we are from.

The Scottish nature is beautiful, absolutely stunning. If you’re seeking breathtaking scenery, Scotland is hard to beat.
[ https://www.nordicvisitor.com/blog/scotland-best-beautiful-places-go/] This is an enchanting land steeped in emerald forests, pristine sandy beaches, shimmering lochs (lakes), and craggy mountains.
You can’t help but be captivated by Scotland’s beauty. The crown jewel of Scotland must be Edinburgh.
This historic capital is the home of Harry Potter and the annual Edinburgh Fringe, one of the best festivals in Scotland.
Another beautiful piece of scenery is Loch Ness. A huge lake with high points all around it, and it is of course allegedly home to the legendary Loch Ness monster, which makes it that more interesting.
With all these beautiful sceneries, this could also contribute to the Scots’ national pride. They know, they have a wonderful nature, and it is definitely something to be proud of.
How can we talk about Scotland without mentioning whiskey. The earliest record of distillation in Scotland was in 1494, it was an order from the King.
