Indledning
In the modern society everything changes all the time, and for some people it is hard to keep up with the new changes. In this case, the modern society is like a moving tube following the red line.

However, some people are afraid of the many changes and the constantly changing world and would just like everything to stay the way they are, because this is where they feel safe and comfortable.

In the story “The Red Line”, we see how the modern society affects each person from their point of view.

Uddrag
In relation to the story “The Red Line” I have chosen to describe the two main characters. First of all, we meet “The nameless man” or also known as “The karaoke-man”.

He is very obsessed with karaoke, therefore he goes to “The Brunswick” every Friday night, where he gets up at the karaoke-stage and sings his heart out.

However, before he goes out, he shaves every single part of his body, except the “golden lucks” remaining on his head. He likes to be very clean and smooth.

In the following quote: "Clean armpits, no ugly squiggles on his chest, no pubic hair polluting his penis and testicles” (first page, line 4-5 in the chapter “oval”), it sounds like he is very disgusted of body hair and just wants to be smooth and clean all over his body.

Furthermore, he is very self-obsessed. That is expressed on line 8-9(first page): “Once he was clean and smooth all over, he studied himself in the mirror”, and line 19-20(first page)

where it is written that “He was proud of his small feet and hands, they were so dainty and delicate”. The nameless man is furthermore a racist because he describes the other main character in a very racist way:

“Who the fuck did he think he was, that greasy ape? Look at him. He was just the type that was ruining London” (page 69, line 28-29), which leads me to Berto.

Berto is Italian which comes to expression on page 64, line 5, where there is written that he met Cathy in Venice.
