The book “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” is written by Mark Haddon. It is an English novel, and it was published back in May 2003. The book is a mystery novel, and it is about a 15-year-old boy1, who is diagnosed with Aspersers syndrome.
The book is written, as if the boy is the author, and as the reader you can hear his thoughts and feelings, because he is the narrator.
As the reader of this novel, you are introduced to a list of important characters. The main character in the novel is Christopher John Francis Boone, who is also the narrator. Christopher has a mother and a father, who is also referred to as Ed and Judy Boone.
Christopher’s neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Shears are also introduced, and has an important role in the novel, because they affect the relationship between the main character Christopher and his parents, which will be explained further on.
The novel takes place in a town called Swindon4, located in England, in 1998. We can conclude the time of act, because Christopher tells that he was nine years old in 19925 and he tells the police officer that he is now fifteen years old, that means that he is six years older than in 19926, so we must be in the year of 1998.
The novel has two main plots. The first plot is introduced specifically in the beginning7, and Christopher tells that he is writing a book, that he would like to read himself8, and therefore he is writing a murder mystery novel, with the big question he wants to investigate, as a detective, is as he says specifically “I am going to find out who killed wellington9”.
The reader is therefore curious of what happened to the dog and hopes to figure out further on.
