The American dream is a concept as old as the country. Then people started traveling overseas, the dream was to create a better, and freer, life for themselves and their families, by working hard.
But as time went by the ideals were crushed by a harsh reality, and the American dream was forever changed, and for some, shattered.

The goal of the American Dream varies tremendously. “I am living the American dream. I have a job, a family, and my son goes to a great school, and if he works hard enough, he can have any job he wants” Bernalillo Miguel, a Mexican immigrant , tells The Atlantic.
This quote is interesting for two reasons. As an immigrant going from nothing to a minimum wage job is huge.
The statement does not say ‘I have a great job’, it is just a job, which is a great deal for this man. For him, something that is often seen as nothing is achieving the dream.
But what makes this really interesting is the comparison. He puts great emphasis on his son, and how he can get any job he wants by working hard, this highlights how background makes a difference.
