There is always a person who believes others easily. Without even knowing if the person is telling the truth or not.
Sometimes it ends up bad and the person who believes in someone ends up getting disappointed, and when they want to do something about it has already been late. That is what the short story “Say you” is about.
The short story has individual and collective characters. The main characters are Jewel and Abel. Jewel is a girl who lives on an island between Cuba and the US.
One summer some refugees are going to the US, and one of them is Abel, who is a handsome and charming guy.

The girls on the island usually feel lonely and whenever they see new immigrants coming to the island, so they wanted to build a relationship with them.
The girls start flirting with the Cuban men, trying to get to know them and they are straight forward.
However, their attitude is often sexually teasing and trying to be attractive for the men. They hope that the men will fall in love with them and they will stay on the island.
The immigrants from Cuba shows how illegal immigrants were in the 1980s. They only wanted to go to the USA, the American dream.
