Shirley is the mother of two daughters. She has a very artistic mind, and is a big optimist. Even though people aren’t always encouraging about her way of living, she does things the way she wants. Which is why she got a divorce from her husband.
He wanted to live a traditional life, and did not like her hippie behaviour, as it is explained: “No one was surprised when he left:
Shirley was into yoga rather than working, playing the guitar rather than ironing shirts, and left him at home looking after the girls while she went to meetings and lectures and mind-expansion groups.”
She can also be a bit extreme. For an example, she told her daughters not to wear shoes, as she thought that shoes weren’t necessary, and that because the aboriginals didn’t, her family wouldn’t have to either.
