Hello my fellow students! I am happy to be invited to speak to you today. My name is James Smith, and I study business here at Boston University.
I’m glad I have gotten the chance to come here and talk about the retailing and racial inequality in the US.
Firstly, I will be accounting for and commenting on why and how US retailers address racial inequality. Then I will try to discuss the role of business in fighting inequality.

The US retailers that fail to put focus on this topic will lose to other competitors that take action against the racial inequality.
People like to shop where they feel respected and comfortable. If you’re treated right where you shop, you will keep coming back.
Carol Spieckerman, president of Spieckerman Retail, said companies can’t just walk the walk anymore and says “At the end of the day, retailers are having to compete against a lot more progressive industries.
How serious are they about diversity and empowering diverse groups within their ranks?” Even though a lot of businesses have made public statements regarding the racial inequality, too many failed to act and try and make a difference.
