The United States of America has always been an important participant in many wars all around the world. But with war comes horror and devastated people. Luckily, a great deal of the soldiers who march in war, come back alive again. For honoring these people, The National Veterans Day was created.
And since that day, it has been an important day for many Americans. In the 2017 speech “National Veterans Day Observance”, however, Mike Pence talks about the veterans in the USA and is focusing on how The President makes USA a greater place for ex-servicemen.
One could make the point, that Pence uses multiple kinds of rhetorical devices throughout his speech. For instance, inclusive speech which is used in the very beginning of the speech: “There is a day in the spring when we remember those who served and did not come home. . .” (l.1).
The writer uses the personal pronoun “we” which enables everyone that they feel connected to what the speaker is saying. As a result of his use of inclusive speech, it seems like everyone has the same opinion and is observing this day.
Accordingly, Mike Pence wants to stay connected with his audience throughout his speech, he accomplishes that by using inclusive speech from the beginning to the end.
More importantly, he not only wants the audience to feel connected to him but also the speaker’s content and message. Furthermore, the vice president's established connection is furtherly improved by his use of repetition.
