On May 16, 2020, former president, Barack Obama, gave a commencement speech to the graduating class.

He begins by expressing how proud he is of the students, and he recognizes that what they are going through is extremely difficult.

He then proceeds to explain how no one imagined this year to be like it is. The speech then goes on about previous demanding situations that America has overcome.

He tells the teenagers that the world is in their hands and that they are the ones who can make a change. At the very end, he talks about how they can achieve great things if they work together.

Turns out that they don’t have all the answers (...). So, if the world’s going to get better, it's going to be up to you. (p. 2 l. 13-16).

He is giving the listeners a will to fight and showing them that they are the ones who can change the country for the better. Even though it is a very serious matter, he discusses it in a positive tone that creates hope.
