This speech was published, August 20th, 2020 by the American tv station CNN. In this speech, Barack Obama is explaining why the Americans should vote for Joe Biden, as the next president.
Barack Obama is starting the speech by using pathos, as he ́s welcoming everyone into this speech by saying that it doesn’t matter what you look like, who you worship or where you ́re from. “regardless of what we look like, how we worship, who we love, how much money we have -- or who we voted for.” (17-18) As an American, it gives a warm welcome into this speech.
In the next few lines, he ́s telling them, that they need a president that will help everyone, as he mentioned the people that went to jail and died. Some Americans have older family members that died or went to jail for trying to make the USA a better country.
“But we should also expect a president to be the custodian of this democracy. We should expect that regardless of ego, ambition, or political beliefs, the president will preserve, protect, and defend the freedoms and ideals that so many Americans marched for and went to jail for; fought for and died for.” (19-22) By using pathos at the start, he ́s warming many hearts around the USA, as they pay even more attention to the rest of the speech.
