Ladies and gentlemen, first of all I would like to thank my organization for letting me be the spokesman today and I hope you’ll listen while I talk about a very serious issue that is going on in the world right now, without many of you even realizing, and that is modern slavery and human trafficking.
I’m an associate from a British nongovernmental organization, which specializes in modern slavery and to find ways to end it, but that is not an easy task, because right as we speak in this moment, people are working as slaves .
The UK prime minister wants to eliminate forced labor, modern slavery, and human trafficking. We are making progress; we need to do it with the same speed we do with drug and gun trafficking. I’m pleased to stand here before you today to report that many countries, have agreed to fight modern slavery.
We need to fight the human traf- ficking because whether it’s young girls affected by trafficking across borders forced to work as sex slave or men and women who are forced to work in factories, no countries are free from the abuse and violence that follow these human rights violations.
There are shocking statistics that show that there are estimated 35 million victims of modern slavery and trafficking, about 26% of people that are forced to work as sex slaves or other forced labor are children.
Child slavery is one of the evilest crimes imaginable. In our organization we do everything in our power to help chil- dren who have fallen into human traffickers and other criminals.
Our organization has already do- nated a large amount of money to UNICEF to protect little girls and boys in risk of slavery and other violence and we are also investing in a new program to help strike the human traffickers, but we can’t do all this alone and that is why we are asking everyone for help.
