1. The acceleration in global migration will continue because of the world’s growing population.
: Figure 1A shows that the size of international migrant population has increased from 174 million migrants in 1995 to 272 million migrants in 2019.
Though, the proportion of the world population who are migrating has remained relatively stable over the same period of time. So, the acceleration of migration will continue, because the population of migrant will continue to increase as the world population do in size.
2. Many kinds of instability, both economically, socially, and governmentally makes people migrate. These instabilities become push factors, pushing people to leave the country, leaving the opportunities in EU as pull factors.
: The majority of migrants crossing the boarders to EU are from African countries and the Middle East. Both areas have low-income countries within them.
The increase in globalization becomes an eye opener for many people - they become aware of the exceedingly better living standards in other countries, for instance in the EU.
The largest group of migrants crossing the EU border in 2020 were from Syria, with 17,3%. This could amongst other things be due to the civil war which had been taking place since 2011.
A civil war that had put a big load on Syria economically, socially, and governmentally. All these are push factors that impel people to migrate.
