Over the last 50-60 years, the world has seen a wave of globalization. It has resulted in an increasing need for intercultural communication. Intercultural communication is communication across cultural boundaries.
There has also been increasing international integration, in politics, tourism and trade, which has made it much more important for people to be able to communicate with each other and thus avoid misunderstandings.
To get a better understanding of intercultural communication, there is a theoretical model to help with this. The model was developed by the American anthropologist Edward T. Hall.

According to anthropologist Hall, the size of personal space is also a significant factor. Size varies greatly from person to person.
Very introverted people often need a more personal space than more extroverted ones. In many Latin American countries, two people who talk a lot together are often seen standing on top of each other's heads, almost touching.
