Uddrag
All through the text, Spence’s tone is serious and formal, as it is convenient for the tabooed and sensitive topic discussed. This is expressed in Spence’s use of more challenging words such as “Inexplicable” (p. 1, l. 10) and “supplant” (p. 1, l. 23).
Spence accentuates his profession and experience and as a result he appeals to ethos in order to increase the reader’s trust.
Spence’s tone also becomes persuasive quite fast by looking at his choice of words. Spence uses modal verbs such as “must” (p. 2, l. 35) that expresses necessary moral questions to reader.
