But did (does) her mother guess anyway? She would (will) wonder that, years later. And did (does) she blame the girl?

For she reserved (reserves) for the girl a strictness she never applied (applies) to her siblings, and a critical tartness of manner that made (makes) the girl feel constantly stupid and dashed.

Though she didn’t (doesn’t) like to admit it to herself, she didn’t (doesn´t) want to think she was (is) unloved.

Fifteen years old, she sat (sits) on her mother's bed beside her mother as she got (gets) ready to go to a function, her mother patting her own hair in the mirror, taking (takes) up her bangles and asking (asks), Which one?

The girl was (is) flattered to be asked and chose (chooses) with care, a deep blue and a turquoise to go with the colours in her mother's kaftan, and her mother, pleased with the choice, drew (draws) them onto her wrist. An intimate moment, for which the girl was (is) glad.

Many people are impacted from previous experiences. But is that really what forms you as a person?

This subject is touched upon in Elizabeth Baines short story “Kiss”. Here we follow three different people whose impressions from other people has massively impacted them.

In the short story we are introduced to three different people. The first people we hear about is the couple (line 1). The young woman has her blonde hair up in a ponytail.

She is wearing a silver jacket (line 4), and green sneakers (line 14). The young man, who is the young woman’s boyfriend has dreadlocks

and he has these bunched at his neck in a red band (line 5), he is wearing tight jeans (line 15). Then we hear about the last main character in the story.

This is the man with the backpack which holds a bomb, therefore he is holding a detonator in his hand. Throughout the story we hear about the different unnamed characters background and childhood.

Firstly, we hear that the young woman was sexually abused by her father in her childhood (line, 36-40). We get the impression that she blames herself for the abuse “Perhaps it hadn't.

Perhaps she had dreamt it; perhaps she was evil, filthy-minded. […] perhaps there was something wrong with her, for it to keep on happening.” (line 40-43). She believes that she is the reason for this action, and she thinks something is wrong with her.
