But the American Business was not the only part affected by the “America first” policy. Due to this policy, home prices increased by 13,9% which implies that consumers must pay more for buying a house, which makes houses less affordable.

Even though this might sound like something bad, increased house prices are considered beneficial for the homeowners because their properties now hold a higher value.

But it´s important to say that consumers also have experienced downsides to the America first policy. Due to the change in tariffs, Trump’s policy increases the prices for everyday goods.

The average cost of washing machines increased by 17% in only four months, which shows that consumers are the ones who end up covering the costs of import tariffs. This is very bad, because now consumers may not be able to afford the same number of goods they used to.

Now, what about the workers whom Trump promised to help? Studies show that: “Since President Trump took office, the economy has created nearly 3 million jobs and the unemployment rate has fallen to 3.8 percent, matching the lowest level in nearly 50 years” (ll. 6-7). His policy has led to more jobs and lower unemployment.
