The main characters and Ann relationship, is very basic and they don’t have a lot of things in common. Their relationship is very uncontrolled and it is mostly Ann who is responsible.
We know that Ann is the responsible because, the main character didn’t say anything about the dead body, he found in the water. The main character do maybe have some trust issues.
