Podcast review The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is an animated musical fantasy film from 1989, based upon a story from Hans Christian Andersen produced by Walt Disney. The film is about sixteen year old Ariel, a mermaid princess who lives under the sea and is curious about the human world.

In one of her visits to the surface, which are forbidden by her dad, King Triton, she falls in love with Erik, a human prince. Determined to be with the person she loves, Ariel makes a secret and dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula to become human for three days, make the prince fall in love with her and kiss her. After those three days Ursula has all the power and that’s when King Triton takes a shocking decision.

Ariel’s determination to go chase love makes the movie good, at a very young age she decides to leave her family and the life she knows for love. She even chooses to make a deal with the evil witch Ursula, even though she’s not ready to face all the consequences, she’s not hesitating to go find the love of her life - prince Erik.

Ariel’s two little helpers, the fish Flounder and the crab Sebastian also makes the movie good. They stick with her throughout those three days and are determined to help her with the love. Yes, Sebastian was against it in the start, but he saw what love did to Ariel and how could he refuse - he eventually became a sucker for Ariel and Erik’s love.
