Perfection (2004) is a short-film by Karen Lin that tells the progressing story of an Asian mother and her toddler daughter and the enormous pressure that can be put on children to try and make them perfect in terms of succeeding in the world.

From the beginning we're shown the toddler sitting there on the carpet in the living room, when the mother appears in a doorway heading for the closet to find a game that she will teach her toddler to play, it's a geometry game called Perfection and the game repeatedly occurs as the toddler grows with time. She will continue to play it throughout her lifetime.

As the daughter gets older, she will acquire the skill of playing violin and go to multiple competitions and win several trophies and beyond that, it appears that she is awarded an academics degree from being a graduate student.

The short-film ends with what seems to be her finding the balance in life, after a lifetime of hard work and no time to find herself.
