Uddrag
Raymond Carver lived a life in many ways close to the life of his characters: he was primarily occupied with the lower middle-class and their problems.

However, he merely pictured them without ever giving any kind of solution to their problems. Stylistically, he was influenced by Ernest Hemingway, as both authors made use of a writing style known as minimalism.

What, then, is minimalism or minimalist writing? A catchphrase often used about this particular writing style is ‘less is more’, as minimalist writers believe that you can actually say or show more in a text by not saying anything at all.
