Indledning
I have chosen to analyze a speech given by Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. - better known as Joe Biden.

The speech was held on 2 August 2020 during the fourth day of the Democratic National Convention, at the Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware.

During his speech, Joe Biden accepted the nomination to be the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee and talked about his vision to beat Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.

The speech was broadcasted on several channels and millions of Americans across all states tuned in.

Therefore, American citizens are the receiver of this speech and that can further be explained when Biden says “And my fellow Americans, that is unforgivable” where he directly addresses the audience.

Several times in the speech, Biden uses the rhetorical device anaphor. He does this, for instance at the beginning of the speech: “Too much anger.

Too much fear. Too much division” , and again “We're so much bigger than that. We're so much better than that.”

In the last quote, the rhetorical device epiphora is also used, which deals with the repetition of some words at the end of a sentence.

Both anaphor and epiphora, have the same function of emphasizing a particular point as such in the latter quote "we're so much”. With that clause repeated the focus is on unity and standing together as a "we”.

Moreover, the effect of anaphora and epiphora is that the specific clause becomes more memorable due to the repetition as well as it appears as an important point.
