My name is Alexi Cameron and I am a student of sociology at the University of Texas. I am thankful to be here today to give a speech about the importance of giving ex-cons a second chance and how it can change the economy.
The main problem in society in regards to ex-offenders finding jobs after prison is the fact that many employers are worried about the safety of it.

The main problem in society in regards to ex-offenders finding jobs after prison is the fact that many employers are worried about the safety of it.
They are worried that maybe they might steal or will not do their job right. Some businesses are also worried that if they hire ex-offenders and turn out to be bad employees, they can get sued for not being more careful about hiring suitable people.
Statistics show that 30 percent of adult offenders released from state prisons are rearrested within the first six months.
Even worse, 67 percent of ex-offenders return to prison within three years of their release , this is because they do not get a fair chance at life after prison
some are being treated as if they were still in prison and are looked down on, we need to change this, ex-offenders are people just like us and needs a second chance
later we will find out if they were worthy of this second chance, in which a large number of about 93 percent are.
Also, a huge problem with not giving ex-offenders a second chance is the fact that such a large percentage of ex-offenders that are not getting a job ends up in prison within a short period of time because they do not have anything to support themselves and ends up committing crimes to get that support.
