Indledning
We all want a good life and have the feeling that we fit in. Being a misfit certainly is not good for our happiness. We want to be acknowledged for who we are and to be granted love from the ones who mean the most for us independently of how well we do.

I was endangering my career.” (p. 1, ll. 13-15) in this part of the short story we are told how important the competition and swimming is to the mother, and how she restrains the main character and does not allow her to do anything that could make her lose motivation for swimming.
The main character has been swimming her whole life and feels like she belongs in the ocean. When she describes herself as in these quotes “The translucent, froggy webs between my toes and the cascade of beautiful green hair underneath my swimming cap.” (p. 2, ll. 48-49)
“The skin on the back of my legs is rough. One patch right underneath my backside and another below my knee, both of them silvery and splitting into scale.” (p. 3, ll. 58-59)
she describes herself as if she was a fish herself with scales, rough skin and froggy webs between her toes. She feels like a misfit on the surface and enjoys being at the bottom of the pool.
