Summary
The article” Quiet is good” by Maria Bonvissuto, published in The Bitter Southerner in 2019 is about growing up, creating an identity, and the difference between small places and big cities. Bonvisutto explains in her article how she and her parents moved from Chicago to a small-town Kingston Springs in Tennessee.
She resented the area and Nashville and only dreamt about moving away. Fast forward to her young adult life, she depicts how she moved to Washington D.C and experienced how Nashville became the next ‘in and hot’ place everyone talked about. She learned to live the authentic way of life in a small town where community and solidarity meant more than flashy big lights in a big city.

Uddrag
Our family, friends, work, and the places we grow up in usually are a part of our identity and have a meaning and aspect to the way we form our relations to other people.
These factors are also a part of our deepest dreams and wishes for life, which can often be portrayed in us wanting the opposite of what we have.
If we are born in a small town, we often wish to move to a bigger city where everyone does not know who we are and where our dreams can be explored.
These are the issues Maria Bonvisutto depicts in her article “Quiet is good”, printed in The Bitter Southerner in 2019.
