Indledning
Good evening to you all, my name is Jonathan Stratham, I am a student at the University of Texas and I am here to tell you about why you should give former convicts a second chance.
We are in the year 2018 and most companies still won’t hire people with a criminal record, and why is that? Do we think that because some people have a criminal record they are worse people than us? Just because they are convicted does not mean that they are guilty.
We live in a society where we obviously do not believe in other people. Why must we question everything everybody does? Because we lack the ability to see the positive things in others. As soon as we see a person we don’t know we automatically judge them by their looks, this is where the saying “you can’t judge a book by its cover” comes from.
It makes a lot of sense that you can’t judge people just from their looks. It takes time to get to know another person, but it doesn’t take any longer just because they have a criminal background.

The owner of Sicillian Pizza & pasta, Jeff, is one of the people who has started to understand what this is all about. He doesn’t look at his employee’s background, he doesn’t care that they have a criminal history, all he cares about is giving people a second chance.
Jeff believes that everybody deserves a second chance and a fresh start. He states that it doesn’t always work out, but that is the same with or without a criminal background.
