Donald Trump speech | Non-fictional analysis

On the 27th of August 2020, President Donald Trump held his speech to the Republican-party at the Republican National Convention (RNC).

This Speech is one of the more important speeches for a presidential candidate. It sets the sails for the presidential campaign, where the candidate makes political promises to the American people and his core voters.

His closing statement of the speech is fueled again by ethos but also pathos: “On November 3, we will make America safer. We will make America stronger.

We will make America prouder. And we will make America greater than ever before. I am very proud to be the nominee of the Republican Party” The use of ethos is evident by phrases such as “than ever before,” which you see throughout the whole speech.

This rhetorical feature is called epiphora, which is when you repeatedly state a word or phrase at the end of a statement.
