Indledning
What would you do if you felt like you were changing into someone or something that you despised? This is one of the central questions that the movie District 9 might make its viewer reflect upon.
“District 9” is a movie directed by Neill Blomkamp and is published in 2009. The central theme in this analysis is fear, and how it changes a person.
My focus in this analysis will be characterization of the main character Wikus Van de Merwe and some of the secondary characters as well as the settings of the movie.

Throughout the story Wikus develops from a seemingly insensitive and persistent employee into a more empathetic and self-aware man.
This transformation is seen through his interactions with characters such as the other humans, due to his alien transformation, Wikus becomes an outcast.
Moreover, as Wikus gets closer to the alien population particularly trough his interactions with Cristopher Johnson, he develops empathy.
In relation to his wife Wikus relationship to her evolves due to his transformation turning into an alien. Wikus’s wife’s reaction to him becoming an alien has a bad impact on Wikus.
The character Koobus is a powerful MNU man, which is disgusted by the aliens. After Wikus get exposed to the black ooze, Koobus will do everything in his power to catch Wikus and turn him into MNU for science.
Meanwhile the relocation is ongoing Wikus accidently get exposed to alien biotechnology, which include that Wikus undergoes an external transformation, taking on an appearance reminiscent of the aliens.
This transformation is not only including his external appearance, but it also makes him a different person, as he begins to experience fear, pain, and suffering.
Throughout the story his external characteristic changes more and more into an alien.
