Is the trade war going as it’s supposed to?
Indledning
“America first” was an already well-known concept from the trade war that began in the 1930’s where Americas First Committee started to put pressure on the US government, in order to put the interference in foreign policy affairs to an end. Very much like Trump is saying now, they meant that the government should focus on benefitting their own country’s interests instead.
Trumps interpretation of the “America first” concept is about benefitting the US’ interests, and in general he wants to reduce foreign countries’ involvement in US happenings.
Which, among other things, has meant that the US has withdrawn from large international cooperation agreements and they’ve put massive tariffs on products, that has been imported in some of the largest amounts within imported goods, such as steel, aluminum etc.
All of this and more, Trump says, will have America come out on top of the trade war, but if countries continue to place their tit-for-tat tariffs, to match Americas tariffs, the consequences could be placing, even more than the 4.5 million workers that has already been put out of their i manufacturing job , without a place of work.

People are also discussing if the trade war is actually going to do America any good as Trump says, or if the trade war will bring negative consequences for American producers, now that many companies rely on imported good to be able to produce their products.
American companies making sell things all around the world, employ people all over the world, and are owned by investors all over the world, at the same time foreign companies are employing Americans and exporting from the United States. Take for example BMW, a German company, it’s the biggest automobile exporter from the United States.
Tariffs will hurt American companies, they drive up prices of inputs used by American companies, to make all sorts of things, thereby making American companies less competitive internationally.
Tariffs on steel will hurt American companies that use steel in making cars, appliances and motorcycles. Tariffs on chips, wires and circuits will hurt American companies who use them for making high-tech products.
