Good evening Cambridge, my name is Ali Alyassiri, and I was a student at Pembroke College here at Cambridge University where I got my bachelor’s degree.
I am now an entrepreneur and have my own start-up company. Firstly, I want to thank you all for showing up today. It means a lot to see so many of you could make it today.
Secondly, I want to give a special thanks to the Pembroke College for giving me this opportunity to talk about such an important topic.

Compared to my background I was one in a thousand people that got into Cambridge or Oxford and one of the few that got into a university after a free school meals background.
Given the circumstances, I may sound very lucky, but every coin has two sides. My background was an enormous barrier for my upcoming success and living the life I am living now.
After I graduated from Cambridge, I had to get a job quickly as soon as I finished college, I was under pressure to find a job because of my family's financial situation that could not cover my living costs.
