The happiest day of my life is a short story by penelope lively and written in 1978. The themes of the short story are relevant even today.

In the story we meet a young boy named charles and his parents. They are visiting a prestigious boarding school to determine whether charles should attend.

He's afraid he'll be bullied, and you'll see that at the start. In the story, the mother tries us and decides over the charles manders. The analytical essay will focus on analyzing and interpreting the characters, narration, point of view and theme/message of the short story.

The story was written 1978 by an english writer called penelope lively who is the person is the author she is an english writer of 88 years she has won several major awards such as booker price and carnegie medal.

The main character of the story “the happiest day of my life” by penelope lively are charles as the short story focuses on his views and opinions.

He is generally a very hesitant boy who has difficulty expressing his opinion. Where his parents (mother) make many of his decisions for him for example he must start at school.

The way he talks about he and his parent’s relationship is also the emotional distance that is between them. Charles parents and called mr.

Manders and mrs. Manders. They are looked down to through much of the story since they do not have the closest bond with their son.
