The movie surrounds the main character, Ken Harrison, who is an artist that makes sculptures. He is also engaged and has a fiancée.

Ken becomes depressed and thinks about how he is a burden to his fiancée. He breaks up with her, and this is turning point in the movie.
He doesn’t want to live anymore, because he thinks he is already dead in his mind.
He wants to get off the medication and get discharged, but Dr. Michael Emerson, the medical director of the hospital, won’t allow him to get discharged as he has no of chance of survival outside of the hospital and that he can’t make such an intelligent decision when he is depressed. T
