People buy new things all the time, and still are less satisfied with life. It suggests that material things are unlikely to boost our happiness in a sustained or meaningful way.

It can have direct negative effects on a person’s relationships, with a partner, a friend or family. They will find themselves being less interested in social events.

Materialistic couples are unhappier and tend to have more arguments than other couples. Money is the main source of the conflict and arguments.

Materialism will never leave a person feeling truly happy because eventually they will get bored with their newfound possessions and will find themselves wanting more.

They are more concerned with what they do not have, such as new and expensive items, rather than focusing on what they already have, such as a family and a job.
