“The Baddest Dog in Harlem” is a short story written by Walter Dean Myers. The texts have been written in present time.

the short story mainly focuses a lot on the police officers killing the little boy and the dog. the main theme in the short story is racism, police brutality and friendship.

half of the guys on the block don't have a job so when the cops invade the street with guns it break the day up nice, because they have nothing to do otherwise, but it also indicate that they are used to the violence and the criminality that is going on in the city.

We do not really get to know so much about the characters in the story, but we are introduced to Willie Murphy in the start of the story,

“Willie Murphy is in his thirties, or maybe even older and was the kind of guy who thought that just because he was older it meant he knew more than anybody’’

We also get the feeling that the boys are frightened when the police showed up that they are afraid of being shoot

“Hey Mr. officer, Pedro called out “we got to get away from here fore we get shoot up’’ and that it is not their first time meeting the police either
