Uddrag
The writing style is very simple and plain. There is not many adjectives or verbs to give the text some color. The text has a third person narrator, that is somewhat unbiased, but we do have a more intimate connection with the woman in the story, as we follow her throughout the text.

The type of writing style is called the iceberg theory, created by Ernest Hemmingway himself.

The principle of this style of writing is that we only see the tip of the iceberg. We only see what is on the obvious surface, but there is clearly more to it.

We do not get an insight in the characters feelings or thoughts. We only see as much as we would if we observed from a window. A lot of things goes unanswered: Why are they at a hotel? Why is the cat in the rain such a big deal? What do the couple think and feel about each other?
