Looking at the effects of raising the minimum wage, CNN has made a video with Jon Sarlin analyzing the positive effects of a federal raise.

Sarlin enforces the point that most people already are offering more than 7,25$ pr hour. He mentions that states actually are free to set a higher minimum wage, and are doing that. 61% of the US has a higher minimum wage.

He mentions Seattle where the minimum is 15$ per hour. His point is that every year the 61% float further and further apart from the federal minimum, which leads to wage inequality.

Besides the inequality, he also touches briefly on inflation, as he mentions that the minimum wage has not been raised since 2009, and back then what is now 1$ only makes up 86 Cents in 2009 due to inflation.

When discussing minimum wages, it is also important to look at how the minimum wage affects business. Here it is important to note, that there is a big difference in weather it is a large corporation or a smaller business.

Bigger companies like Costco can use a higher wage as a means to keep their employees happy and make sure that they stay at Costco.

Craig Jalenik is CEO of Costco, they have an average wage of almost 29$ per hour. Jalenik says that the higher salary ensures that employees are there for the long haul, and offering good wages helps both the employees and the company.
