Humans race to produce more advanced technology with one simple goal in mind. The goal is to make life easier.
Although new technology often lightens our workload, there will be inevitable issues that must be taken into account as we step into unknown technological territory. The concept of artificial intelligence is becoming ever so present as programmers and tech-wizards develop state-of-art machinery that resembles human beings to horrific degrees.
One might begin to speculate wether or not computers can ever be as intellectual as mankind, and through my analysis of the short story ‘True Love’ by Isaac Asimov, published in 1977 in the February issue of American Way magazine, I will attempt to emphasise how technological progress may affect us, as we continue to push through the limits of what was once considered to be impossible.

Milton Davidson seems to be an extremely introverted individual who has withdrawn himself from society, in order to succeed with his technological invention. Like a stressed businessman, he to buries himself in his work and ignores the consequences.
Good relationships are indeed infrequent for Milton Davidson, and he now relies on technology, on Joe, to find him a companion – “Eight were very good matches and Milton said, “Good, you have their data banks.
Study requirements and needs in the job market and arrange to have them assigned here…”.” Milton wants a life partner, and he wants to spend time with other people, but his interest programming has gotten in the way of making him socially capable.

The title “True Love” is relevant to the short story, as there are examples of the lengths humans are willing to go to in order to find a companion. But it is also ironic, as Milton did not end up finding the love of his life, and Joe was perfectly compatible with Charity, although, no matter its personality, Joe is only a computer.
If the future is anything like “True Love”, we will never be able to trust technology with our personal details or important documents, as they may turn against us in the end. Wether your computer decides to make a profit by tapping into your bank accounts, or if they just want to humiliate us by posting personal photos on our Facebook account, I don’t think you need to be worried.
