Indledning
In “The Firm” we meet Dominic - a fairly normal English teenager from the lower class of society, who lives with his parents in a small apartment. They don’t live significantly wealthy, in fact the family, and the whole neighborhood seems rather poor. Dominic’s dad is fixing apartments as a carpenter for a living and occasionally Dom helps his father with his job.

You get the feeling Dom’s path has already been laid down in front of him – like father, like son. Because he’s working with his father, and the fact that he doesn’t really go to school, gives us the idea that he’s going to end up in the lower- or middle-class, like his parents.

Uddrag
When Dom and his mate Tel literally bumps into the notorious Bex – the harsh leader of a football-hooligan-firm, they get tangled up in this web. Dom ends up being really fascinated by the aura of respect around Bex, and the lifestyle he’s living.

The film is able to portray the feeling of being part of this firm as strong sense of community, and we as spectators can see why Dom wants to be a part of this tight fellowship. He starts drifting away from his old friends and quickly becomes a part of the firm.

The idolization of Bex is almost extreme, and he starts to wear, not only the same brands and fashion as the members of the firm, but the exact same clothes. This outfit of sportswear acts as kind of a symbolic uniform and a characteristic trademark telling others that you’re a part of this firm.

The outfit is of great significance in the firm, so when Dom one day shows up in the exact same clothes as Bex, he accidently challenges Bex’s status. By dressing up like him, he indicates that he’s on the same level as Bex in this unspoken hierarchy.
