The dystopian genre depicts a ruined society or a world full of chaos. It’s the worst society imaginable. In the dystopian genre, the story often takes place after a disaster.
It could, for example, be natural, atomic or political. In short, dystopia is the opposite of utopia which is the ideal society/world.
“There will come soft rains” opens with a clock announcing that it is time to wake up and a hint that perhaps no one will(” (p.1, l. 2). In the kitchen
the stove cooks breakfast and a voice from the ceiling announces the setting. The new modern house prepares for the day
but its inhabitants have not been responding to its several wake up calls, breakfast, or the waiting car.
