We as humans will be responsible for our own death, we are killing the earth slowly. In Morris Lurie’s essay “The Larder”, we see a prime example of this happening.
People are careless or maybe they simply just don’t know what they are doing. As a group of tourist visit the Great Barrier Reef, They discover some beautiful creatures.
The creatures are rough on one side, pink and smooth as silk on the other side. The tourist do not hasite, the take as many as they want to, because this is a once in a lifetime experience.
They lay these beautiful creatures on the grass as they leave to eat. In the begging it is very problematic for them to get the creatures out of their shell smoothly
the guy known as the real-estate agent tries a lot of different techniques, as the school teacher tells him he should be careful.
He simply answers that, it does not matter. Maybe they do not or maybe they simply do not care, they leave the ugly shell and collect the beautiful ones.
The next group of tourists will do the same thing over again. Are we too blind to see that we are ruining our own world, or maybe we simply do not care.
